ORLANDO, FL (August 04, 2010) – GeoMotion Group, a leading fitness and learning company based in Orlando, recently announced new additions to its programming for children from four years of age up to eighth grade.
Dr. Debby Mitchell, GeoMotion’s president and founder and associate professor at the University of Central Florida, said all parents and teachers are in favor of increasing school success, but a key challenge for schools is how to increase physical activity time without negatively impacting time for academics.
All of GeoMotion’s curriculum utilizes multi-sensory learning with meaningful movement to develop the whole child–physically, academically, and emotionally. Children have fun with music and movement, while learning and reinforcing academic concepts and building confidence, Dr. Mitchell said.
“GeoMotion products are not intended to replace physical education teachers or traditional PE programs. They are designed to provide the structure for classroom teachers to combine curriculum with organized physical activity. Students learn while moving and having fun and teachers have the tools necessary to blend learning and physical activity,” said Dr. Mitchell.
GeoMotion’s newest programs include: “GeoMotion New Math Curriculum” for grades 3-5 designed to match National Math Standards; “GeoMotion Nutrition Curriculum” for children age 4-5 to encourage learning about foods and developing good eating habits and “Exercise your Smarts” to teach students in grades 3-8 how and why they should exercise to improve their health, Dr. Mitchell explained.
The programs combine visual elements with movement and music. New GeoMotion DVDs include animation to capture children’s interest by being able to relate to characters close to their age group.
The latest brain research found that children learn best through real-world connections, movement and music. GeoMotion has an innovative approach to fitness and learning for children of all ages, and a commitment and passion for building a new generation of healthy and academically successful children. GeoFitness, GeoDance, Learnercise and other GeoMotion programs and curriculum are part of many school programs in Florida and nationwide, as well as after school and other children activities.
“We want to make our programs available to as many organizations as possible. Every child deserves a private trainer. We are helping build a generation that’s healthier and both physically and academically fit. We believe it is our obligation to lead this change,” said Dr. JoAnne Owens-Nauslar (“Dr. Jo”) GeoMotion’s director of corporate/community development.
