ORLANDO, Fla. (May 19, 2010) – GeoMotion Group, an Orlando-based innovative fitness and learning leader is actively participating in the National Fitness and Sports Month by offering special packages to encourage teachers and students in becoming more physically active.
Dr. Debby Mitchell, GeoMotion’s president and founder and associate professor at the University of Central Florida, said GeoFitness, Dance and Learnercise are easy-to-use movement-based products and curriculum designed to increase physical fitness and academic achievement.
Kathleen Sebelius, Secretary of Health and Human Services declared the month of May National Fitness and Sports Month
“An active lifestyle, combined with healthy eating, is the number one way to prevent obesity and key to preventing a host of serious obesity-related diseases, including high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, and asthma. But physical activity also raises energy levels and sharpens concentration for adults. No matter what your age is, exercise can strengthen your heart and your bones. It brings down your stress level. This month-long focus on fitness and sports can trace its roots to the “President’s Fitness Test” schools have given for years, and for good reason. Fit kids are better students” said Secretary Sebelius.
Recently, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and the National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE) initiated the Active Kids and Academic Performance program (www.LetsMoveInSchool.org). As one of the leading sponsors, GeoMotion created documentation to support the importance of physical activity in building a strong generation, physically and mentally.
“Research shows that physical activity can positively affect the blood flow and oxygen to the brain, thereby improving mental clarity. It also affects the part of the brain responsible for learning and memory, and the connections between nerves in the brain, thereby improving attention and information-processing skills” said Dr. Mitchell.
More information on the research conducted by the CDC can be found atwww.cdc.gov/HealthYouth.
“We want to make our programs available to as many schools as possible. Every Child deserves a private trainer. We are helping build a generation which is healthier and fit physically and academically. We believe it is our obligation to lead the change and help create this generation.” says Dr. JoAnne Owens-Nauslar, “Dr. Jo” GeoMotion’s Director of Corporate/Community Development.
